Georgia-Pacific DensDeck

Glass mat gypsum cover boards — from standard fire and impact protection up to FM Very Severe Hail-classified performance, plus a lightweight option that cuts fastener counts — invented by Georgia-Pacific in 1987 and specified on commercial roofs nationwide.

Why We Rep Them

The case for Georgia-Pacific

DensDeck is a four-product line built around one core board, not four unrelated products. Roof Board is the standard glass-mat cover board; Prime adds GP's patented EONIC Technology for enhanced moisture resistance; StormX Prime is the first gypsum cover board FM classified for Very Severe Hail (VSH) under a single-ply membrane; and ProFast Prime trades thickness for weight and fastener savings, cutting fastener counts 25-75% in FM-tested assemblies. Each variant adds moisture, impact, or installation-efficiency performance without changing what the board does — substrate, thermal barrier, recovery board, or cover board under nearly any membrane. Which variant a project needs depends on hail exposure, wind uplift targets, and budget, confirmed per project.

Systems We Specify

DensDeck Roof Board

The industry-standard cover board, since 1987.

Glass mat gypsum that gives roofing assemblies fire and impact resistance polyiso alone can't provide.

DensDeck Roof Board — white glass mat gypsum cover board with Georgia-Pacific branding on a dark background

DensDeck Roof Board is the original glass mat gypsum cover board, invented by Georgia-Pacific in 1987 and still one of the most widely specified boards in commercial roofing. It's used as a substrate, thermal barrier, recovery board, or cover board under nearly any membrane, adding fire resistance, puncture resistance, and a stable base for tested wind-uplift assemblies.

DensDeck Prime

The same board, built to resist moisture longer.

EONIC Technology adds enhanced moisture resistance without changing how the board installs.

DensDeck Prime carries Georgia-Pacific's patented EONIC Technology, engineered for enhanced moisture resistance beyond the standard board — manufactured to 5% total water resistance by weight and 1 gram surface water absorption on both sides. It installs the same way, in the same roles, as the standard board — just built to hold up better against the moisture exposure a roof sees before, during, and after installation.

DensDeck StormX Prime

Built for hail that breaks other roofs.

The first gypsum cover board FM classified for Very Severe Hail in a single-ply membrane assembly.

DensDeck StormX Prime — green-gray impact-resistant gypsum cover board with DensDeck StormX branding on a dark background

DensDeck StormX Prime is FM classified for Very Severe Hail (VSH) — the highest hail rating FM tests for — and was the first gypsum cover board to earn that classification under a single-ply membrane, using a standard adhered membrane bareback assembly. It carries the same EONIC Technology moisture resistance as Prime, layered with enhanced impact resistance for buildings in severe hail or hurricane-prone regions.

DensDeck ProFast Prime

Fewer fasteners, lighter boards, faster installs.

About 20% lighter than 1/2" DensDeck Prime, with FM testing showing a 25-75% cut in fasteners on partially-adhered single-ply assemblies.

DensDeck ProFast Prime — teal lightweight gypsum cover board with fastener-location marks and DensDeck ProFast branding on a dark background

DensDeck ProFast Prime carries the same EONIC Technology moisture resistance as Prime, at a thinner 3/8" profile that's roughly 20% lighter than the 1/2" board — easier to carry, faster to install, and up to 25% more boards per truckload. FM testing on multiple assemblies using #15 fasteners and 3" plates showed a 25% to 75% reduction in the number of fasteners needed on partially-adhered single-ply roofs, without giving up fire, wind uplift, puncture, or hail resistance.
